The Bhoj Company - A Hub of Awesome Bengali Cuisine

Best food in the best location of Kolkata… If you are in Dalhousie location of Kolkata, and whish to enjoy bengali Cuisine in this chilly winter then The Bhoj Company is the best place. And when you are here, at least once try this place. You will again and again fall in love with the authentic Bengali cuisine.

The best part of their food is they innovatively combine the East Bengal food culture (mainly Dhaka Style) with West Bengal culinary expertise. Even if you aren’t a Bengali and trying this cuisine for the first time, you’ll love it; just as I did.

And not just the foods and the perfect preps, the overall restaurant is cosy, welcoming and filled with amazing people (staffs). Prices are too reasonable here which appeals more visitors.

Possibly for the exceeding crowd, the already two storied restaurant has introduced another sitting area in the ground floor just a couple of months ago. Both ground and first floor accommodate a good number of people at a time and arrangements are very minimalistic though comfortable and eye soothing.

And the staffs, they really deserve a special mention. They are polite, prompt and too professional. They know what to do, and they do that very well; even in rush hours.

Now come straight to the foods.

They have a huge menu stuffed with countless exotic Bengali fish dishes. I was too confused with what to order and what not too.

I was with my group of friends, and we collectively decided to order these foods -
  • Bhetki Fish Fry
  • Gondhoraj Chicken fry
  • Chitol Machh er Muithha
  • Kochu Pata Chingri
  • Murgi Silebata
  • Mutton Curry
  • Bhuna Khichuri
So, how was all these? You’ll like to read, but love to eat!

  • Bhetki Fish Fry

One of the best fish fries so far I  have tasted. The crispy and crunchy feel with just lavishly layered juicy fresh Bhetki fish inside is just mouth-watering. The deep fried fish fillets were on point and tested best with the Kasundi (mustard sauce), added french fries are treat to soul.

  • Gondhoraj Chicken Fry

Something I have heard much but tasted for the first time. A very unique starter, spicy and tangy chicken stripes, deep fried with exotic essence of Gondhoraj (desi kind of Kafir Lime) lime. Gondhoraj is weakness of Bengalis and the essence is really something divine.

  • Chitol Machh er Muithha

This completely Dhakai Style fish prep is treat to tongue. Chitol mach smashed with potatoes and is shaped in small balls, further deep fried and cooked with spices; give a fascinating taste trial.

  • Kochu Pata Chingri

Another culinary mastery - this one in so delicious, you can’t imagine. So, you need to try. Smashed kochu pata with kucho chingri, this partners best with peeping hot plain boiled rice.

  • Murgi Silebata

Never heard of this dish, but it tastes surprisingly delicious. Shredded chicken, particularly mashed on a “sil” (grind stone - sil batta) and cooked with exotic Bengali spices and green chillies. It again tastes mind-blowing with boiled rice.

  • Bhuna Khichuri & Mutton Curry

I wasn’t much excited with khichdi, but the ‘Bhuna’ one is really something different from the regular one. On the dry side, this khichuri is kinda non-sticky rice and lentil cooked together with assorted winter veggies and ghee. The aroma will capture your mind and the spices your taste bud. Spicy, aromatic, palatable... mutton pieces are so soft, smooth and juicy and the curry? - made to perfection! I, personally, combined khichdi with mutton curry which surprised me with its amazing taste. If you love fusion, you can try this too.

Finally, we were done the day. But a lot are left and I must try all those… Hopefully very soon…

I truly think, these were some of the best Bengali flavours- a gastronomical procreation of fabulous culinary arts of both Bengals. If wish to dive in the divine delicacies of Bengal, pay a visit here - For SURE!
