Puchkaman
is the new entry in the city’s street food saga but restricted neither by the
city’s boundary nor in only Phuchka. It has some amazing international street
food offerings root in El Salvador to South Africa to Canada.
Overwhelmed?
Should be! I was at the Dumdum Nagerbazar area outlet (on R N Guha Road) very
recently with my friend, and our first impressions were like this too.
The
outlet is very simple with casual sitting arrangement for 5 to 7 people. There
is nothing so captivating in the décor but it’s the food that captures your
all.
We
had different item from all the sections of the menu.
We
started with the traditional Kolkata Special Aloo Phuchka with the favourite
tangy, spicy tamarind water. It is just as fantastic as the popular Bengaliparar
morer phuchka.
Corn
Cheese Phuchka is a lovely fusion Puchka stuffed with sweetcorn and cheese, and
garnished with more cheese. If you are a cheese lover like me, definitely try
this.
Fish
and Phuchka? What? What’s the heck? - I asked promptly and boy in the counter
said ‘try once, then ask.’ Well, I didn’t need to ask again, I had my answer.
Stuffed with spicy fishballs the phuchka had some papri, sev as toppings.
Worth trying it!
Mumbai
Pao Bhaji is a legendary street food from the business city but this one is
more special with the delicious cheese and corn loaded bhaji.
Don’t
misjudge Kashmiri Alurdom Bunnychow as a Kashmiri street food like our
chowmein. It’s from the gateway to Africa - Durban, one of the busiest South
African cities. Traditionally it is a hollowed white bread loaf stuffed with beans
and curries. But Phuchkaman creates the mouthwatering fusion by putting
yummiest Kashmiri Alurdom inside the loaf. What’s more, this bunnychowis served
with potato chips and another favourite churmur on side. We loved the
combo, it was awesome.
Another
culinary marvel comes with the El Salvadoran street food Corn Cheese Chicken
Pupusa. Well, this Pupusa is popular among the Pipil tribes of this small Latin
American country for centuries. This is somewhat like Bao. Pupusa is a soft dough
stuffed heavily with corn, cheese and chicken strips and served with a spicy
cabbage slaw. This was just awesome!
Next
it is Hot Garlic Poutine straight from the Canadian island Quebec. It is simple
French fries but topped with an extremely spicy gravy with rich garlic aroma. Extremely
spicy means EXTREMELY… avoid if can’t resist so much hotness!
Chocolate
Puchka, it’s a must try for all. Filled with whipped vanilla icecream, and
loaded with chocolate chips, chocolate sprinkles, this phuchka dessert is
surely a must have from the menu. We ended with it, finally!
If
you are feeling water in mouth, visit this weekend. Race towards good deeds.
Try out the best of the best street foods… you’ll love it… We Assure!
