The Saffron Tree – Ultimate Destination for Mughlai Cuisine

Hello friends, very good morning. This is Bikash your “The Foody Me” is here to take you to a new journey where we will move towards South Kolkata and explore one of my most desired food hub namely “The Saffron Tree”.

This ultimate food destination is located at Southern Avenue, 5mins from Desopriya Park and 10 mins walking from Kalighat metro station. You can easily find this place with the help of Google maps which is easily searchable.

When you enter the restro, you are warm welcomed with drink counter and beautiful beer bottles hanging in a wooden cube beautifully designed and decorated, offering a sense of love. A big statue of Jhonny Walker wants you to take a glass of whisky and enter the heaven of saffron world. I was quite confused with the name. Why they have kept this name and how it justifies with the ambiance. I was 100% found it relevant when I entered and saw the beautiful decoration of cup & mugs hanging in the ceiling, beautiful art work and couple of tree with saffron light. Entire ambiance was saffron in color, yes there were other color as well but domination of saffron color justifies the name completely.

This is a venture of Spice Craft whose owner is Chef Sambit Banik who is a top scholar of business management and hotel management.  His excellent research and experiment framed a quality of dishes that you can’t find in entire region of Kolkata.

I was already impressed with the ambiance and when I checked the menu, it was very well explained and decorated with proper details of the unit story, owner and food descriptions. My expectation became very much as I was willing to have a first glance of my orders.  With the help of excellent staffs I ordered the followings and I think you visit there then you must order them for sure:

  • Hajmola Collins

If you journey starts with mock tails then I think it’s the best deal you can have. Mine too started with something awesome, this awesomeness name was Hajmola Collins which was something merely hajmola drink which was spicy served in a glass with a chili at the top. Taste was really good and loved it.

  •   Litchi Ke Kebab (Nawabs of Lucknow)

Have you ever heard about litchi ke kebab, yes you heard me right. Litchi ke kebab, which I also heard first time and when I saw, I was unable to stop myself to have a bite. Litchi which was covered with cream make it the best of all dishes.

  •    Macchli aur Aam papad ki kebab (Nawabs of Bhopal)

A perfect combination of fish baked in mango and ginger sauce makes it a delicious sweet & spicy dose of yummmness . I must say, I never had such a wonderful fish kebab is my entire life.

  • 4Jama Masjid Butter Chicken (JMBC)

This is another goodness served on table which was similar to sizzler. Spring chicken served with clarified butter on cabbage leaf. When butter was poured by service fellow on chicken, a smoky moment creates that makes it a wow moment. A beautiful combination of spices with butter, chicken chunks and smoky moment makes it the best deals for me.

  • Hyderabadi Murg Sofiana

Hyderabadi biryani in Kolkata sounds very awesome that too here was a big surprise to me. This deliciousness was served in a platter with 2 pieces of fleshy chicken and biryani rice with eggs. Quantity was enough and two can manage in one.

  • Wine poached khubani ka Meetha

A special type of hyderabadi  desert prepared from apricort and wine. This was one of the delicious desert ever had.

I hope you all enjoyed the journey of this deliciousness from the house of The Saffron Tree. This is a gem in the city of joy. For a moment, I felt Kaashhhhhhh yeh North Kolkata me hota, then I would had visited this place again and again to enjoy all their delicious dishes.

Coming to the price, I don’t tag them with expensive one. Pocket pinch will be somehow Rs 1000 for two. Till then, wait for my next journey of heaven. Take care…
